With the release of A Shipwreck in the Sand, their fourth and finest album yet, Silverstein honours their near decade long, magnanimous rule as an empire with 750,000 albums sold and over 1200 shows played. All the while, the benevolent conquerors have shown nothing short of loyalty to their audience and honest devotion to their cause. An unrelenting tour schedule and a sense of artistic accountability suffice to explain how an obscure band with a relevant sound could foster their earliest fanfare into a laudable career: the decade-long allegiance of an audience and the ability to still smack relevant and intelligible with tender aged, new recruits. A Shipwreck in the Sand, for all of its creative maturation, possesses a thematic and aesthetic familiarity that rightly crowns their story. In 2000, the band formed their union, not in hopes of grandeur but wrought of their youthful love of music and a vision to meld disparate emo, hardcore and metal influences, ranging from the Get Up Kids to Grade, Penfold to Poison the Well. Inside of two years, Silverstein self-released their first two, somewhat jejune EPs, Summer's Stellar Gaze and When Shadows Beam, attracting a great deal of local attention and testing their road legs in eastern Canada in the process.

Warren G exploded out of the burgeoning Long Beach rap scene in 1994 with the smash single "Regulate," a duet with longtime friend Nate Dogg, and its accompanying album, Regulate...G Funk Era. G grew up in Long Beach listening to his parents’ extensive collection of jazz, soul and funk records, also frequently hanging out at the local V.I.P. record store. As a teenager, he and his friends Nate Dogg and future superstar Snoop Dogg formed a rap group called 213, after their area code. Eventually, the V.I.P. record store allowed the trio to practice and record in a back room. It was here that Snoop cut the demo "Super Duper Snooper," which G played for his half-brother Dr. Dre at a party. Dre invited all three to his studio and wound up collaborating with Snoop on The Chronic. While G also made several contributions, he opted to develop his talents mostly outside of Dre’s shadow. He honed his musical skills while producing such artists as MC Breed and 2Pac. Music video for "Regulate" |

Badfish is a tribute band dedicated to playing the music of Sublime. The group is named after a song appearing on the album 40 Oz. to Freedom. Formed in 2001 at the University of Rhode Island, the group's members, who were computer science majors, began playing local Rhode Island clubs and quickly began selling out shows. They continued touring the East Coast and Midwest of the U.S., becoming popular on college campuses among Sublime fans who never were able to see the band due to Bradley Nowell's 1996 death. Since then the group has done multiple national tours per year. In 2008, the band was nominated for Best Tribute Act in the Boston Music Awards. |

By skillfully complementing their deep roots in traditional American music with new ideas, songs, and arrangements, the “all g’Earl” stringband Uncle Earl has emerged as one of the leading lights in the ongoing old-time renaissance. Now entering the band’s tenth year, longtime Uncle Earl members KC Groves and Kristin Andreassen are leading a new formation of the band that has influenced a remarkable new generation of old-time musicians. With the addition of the hard-driving 23-year-old fiddle player Stephanie Coleman and the accomplished multi-instrumentalist Paula Bradley on banjo and clogging (Paula has toured with Bruce Molsky, Tony Trischka, The Rhythm Rats and the honky-tonk band Girl Howdy), the band continues to develop its unique sound – a hybrid of contemporary and modern, with all the members committed to music steeped in tradition and yet unafraid to explore new frontiers. This fall, renowned bassist Bryn Davies (The Tony Rice Unit, Patty Griffin) will again tour with the g’Earls. You think you know Peaches? Perhaps you do. Whether you’ve been a fan since before her groundbreaking 2000 debut, The Teaches of Peaches, or just met for the first time, prepare to get to know her much, much better. Peaches has always trafficked in subversion. On her fourth full-length, I Feel Cream, what she subverts—time and again—are preconceived notions of who Peaches is and what she does. Having held the attention of international audiences for a decade, now she reveals new dimensions of her artistry. These twelve new songs feature vocal performances of startling vulnerability and cool sophistication. A minimalist, nothing-is-wasted economy of sound that throws every lyric and groove into sharp relief. And a fresh take on Peaches’ fiercely independent approach to writing and production, with assistance from colleagues as formidable and inspired as the artist herself. Music video for "Talk To Me" |

Steve Kimock is an innovator. Not just for his ability to successfully navigate live performances spanning the Summer of Love through the advent of MTV and well into the new electronic-pop revolution. And not just for his gift for leading the live music recording and download revolution with a meticulous dedication to archive and share his live shows for more then twenty years (Macworld, 2005). He is not just an innovator because of his craftsmanship restoring vintage analog equipment for a completely custom and organic sound (he designed a highly collected edition of Two Rock brand “Kimock Amplifiers” and most recently a custom, ergonomic Scott Walker guitar, in stereo). Steve Kimock is also an innovator for his ability to create matchless arrangements of musicians, who for over thirty years have collectively created inimitable improvisational performances based on the elements of classic rock, jazz, prog and rhythm & blues, with the kind of soul only someone with his experience and depth can construct. Featuring Melvin Seals, John Kimock and Trevor Exter, this arrangement of seasoned players and talented youthful musicians blends with Kimock’s innovative mind for music – and foretells a merge of his vintage appeal with a modern twist, to befit music lovers of all types. |

For those waiting for a concert experience with the dynamics of a rock band, the dance inducing rhythms of club music, and the sophistication of modern electronica, an unlikely musical alternative has arrived in the form of the band Lotus. Formed at a Mennonite college that had banned on-campus dancing as late as the 1980's, Lotus brings their club-worthy beats and rocking instrumental anthems to theaters throughout the country this fall. No glow-stick bracelets, pretentious Can trivia, or expensive distressed fashion required. This fall the band is embarking on its most ambitious tour with over 40 dates in the US and Japan including their ground breaking announcement of eight 'Pay What You Want' concerts in the Western US. To coincide with this massive tour, the band is releasing two new EP's on October 6th: Feather on Wood and Oil on Glass. The material on both Feather on Wood and Oil on Glass can be directly traced back to Lotus’ 2008 full-length release, Hammerstrike. A number of songs were recorded that didn't find their way onto Hammerstrike (either they hadn't been finished by deadlines or they weren't coalescing with the sound of that project), but after finishing the album, Lotus decided to revisit these tracks, and the results are extraordinary. Feather on Wood is sunnier with a laid-back vibe, yet not afraid of big rock beauty, while Oil on Glass is darker in character, with more head-nodding tempos. |

With his Black Keys bandmate Patrick Carney, Auerbach has recorded five critically acclaimed full-length albums, beginning with 2002’s The Big Come Up. In 2008, Attack & Release debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at 14, marking The Black Keys’ highest position to date. The New York Times called it a “savage, bitter concoction built on a snarling punk-rock riff,” while the Los Angeles Times called it “without doubt the Keys’ most dynamic effort yet.” Auerbach also has been busy with his own record label, Polymer Sounds, for which he produced the 2008 debut from Jessica Lea Mayfield, With Blasphemy, So Heartfelt; Pitchfork praised Mayfield’s album as “fascinating and endlessly listenable.” |

Lucero’s sixth studio album and major label debut, 1372 Overton Park, is due October 6 on Universal/Republic Records. Produced by Ted Hutt (The Gaslight Anthem) and featuring horn arrangements by legendary Memphis session player Jim Spake (Al Green, John Hiatt, Solomon Burke, Cat Power), the record marks a decided turn toward the Memphis soul sound that has long informed the band’s records from afar. 1372 Overton Park follows the band’s 2006 release, Rebels, Rogues & Sworn Brothers, hailed by Pitchfork as “the best showcase for the band’s taut dynamic yet.” Playing between 150-200 live shows a year, Lucero has come to be known as much for their hard-touring work ethic as for their critically acclaimed records. In addition to his work with the band, lead singer Ben Nichols also released a solo record in early 2009 and co-stars in MTV’s $5 Cover, a series about the Memphis music scene.

Acoustic Syndicate’s sound has always been characterized by growth and evolution. Since the band officially formed in the early 1990s, they have continued to challenge themselves to grow as a band with the same earnest intensity that permeates their music. This evolution is never more strikingly apparent than on Long Way Round, their second release for roots label Sugar Hill and their first foray into injecting a studio project with the drive and passion that typifies their live shows. The band did a lot of things different this time around…Perhaps it was the addition of Texas music legend and producer Lloyd Maines into Acoustic Syndicate’s mix that propelled the band to create what they consider their “best project ever.” Or perhaps it had something to do with saxophonist Jeremy Saunders joining the band, after having been long thought of by the other members as their unofficial fifth member. Front man Steve McMurry would venture to say that the change of the band’s sound from gentle and melodic to bold and live was a natural progression. |
